How to Choose a Compression Garment Size

By DirectDermaCare · Updated October 11, 2026

A familiar size label is not enough to choose a recovery garment. A medium from one brand can use a different measurement range from a medium in another, and manufacturers can update their charts. The most useful starting point is the exact style your clinical team has requested.

Write down the garment specifications first

Before comparing prices or colors, note the brand and style number, the area the garment should cover, the required closure, and any instructions about drain sites or compression versus sheer panels. “Body shaper” describes many different designs. A mid-thigh lower-body garment and a full-body garment may share a leg length while covering different areas above the waist.

Use the chart attached to the product

Open the current chart on the listing. Raineywear listings include updated charts; customers returning to the brand should measure again. ContourMD sizing varies across bras, binders, wraps and body garments. Check the product's own sizing details before applying a general chart.

Record the measurement names and units. A binder's circumference range is different from its height. A bra band measurement is different from a clothing size. Do not substitute one simply because the numbers look similar.

Take and compare every required measurement

Use a flexible measuring tape and the manufacturer's measuring instructions. Record each result so you can compare the complete set against the chart. If the chart specifies a particular point on the body, use that point consistently; do not switch to a different measuring position to make a preferred size fit the table.

When measurements fall into different size columns, pause before ordering and ask for help. For Raineywear Smart Fit products, complete the independent waist and hip selections and the other fields shown on the listing. For options outside the published chart, contact us before purchasing.

Check the exact option before adding it to the cart

Review the selected size, color and style option, then confirm the price displayed for that combination. On a garment with several lengths, read the listing title as well as the photo: a manufacturer image may illustrate the wider style family.

Allow for both dispatch and carrier transit before the garment is needed. If your clinician has given you a fixed deadline, ask us to check the product's dispatch information before ordering.

Get help with the product details

Our sizing help page explains what information to send. We can help locate measurements and compare product features; your clinician determines the appropriate garment and wear schedule. Read the return conditions before trying on your order.
