A Simple Skincare Routine: Cleanser, Serum and Moisturizer

By DirectDermaCare · Updated October 13, 2026

You do not need a shelf full of products to build a useful skincare routine. Start with cleansing and moisturizing, add daytime sun protection, and choose an optional serum only when it serves a specific goal. The right starting point is a routine you can use comfortably and consistently.

Your routine at a glance

Step Morning Evening
Cleanse A gentle cleanse as needed Wash away the day's buildup
Optional serum One formula for your main goal One formula that fits your moisturizer
Moisturize A texture you like under sunscreen A comfortable moisturizer or appropriate night cream
Sun protection Separate broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher Plan for sunscreen the next morning

Follow your medication's directions if you use a prescribed skin treatment. The American Academy of Dermatology's application-order guide places cleansing before treatments, then moisturizer and sunscreen.

1. Begin with a comfortable cleanse

DDC Hydrating Facial Cleanser is a foaming face wash with glycerin, betaine and aloe. Work a pea-sized amount between wet palms, massage gently over your face, and rinse with lukewarm water. Avoid direct contact with the eyes. Its 100 mL format is an easy starting point when you want one everyday cleanser.

2. Add one serum, if you want an extra step

For a straightforward hydration step, consider Hyaluronic Acid Serum. For hydration plus the look of more even tone, explore Niacinamide Vitamin Boost Serum. You do not have to buy both. Compare the full ingredient lists and select the formula that matches your priority.

Both listings direct you to apply 2–3 drops after cleansing and follow with moisturizer. Our serum comparison explains the difference.

3. Choose your moisturizer by texture and use

Soothing Emulsion has a lighter feel for daily layering. Hyaluronic Moisturizer is a richer cream with shea butter and squalane; it contains fragrance. Night Renewal Creme is an evening formula containing glycolic acid and retinyl palmitate, a vitamin A derivative. It requires more care than a basic moisturizer.

Introduce new products one at a time. Follow each label and stop if irritation occurs. Do not combine Night Renewal Creme with a separate glycolic-acid or retinol product in the same evening. Read its full precautions before choosing it. Our night cream comparison helps you decide which type fits your routine.

Make daytime sun protection a separate step

These DDC products do not replace sunscreen. Choose a separate broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and follow its label. The AAD's moisturizer guidance includes sun protection as part of everyday care.
